Nicole Oliver Registered Social Worker & Psychotherapist

As a Master Level Social Worker providing somatic-based psychotherapy and a Certified Yoga Teacher, my therapeutic style is wholistic.I am specialized in working with adults, treating complex trauma (C-PTSD), intergenerational trauma, and childhood attachment and relational injuries. In working with trauma survivors, I am also experienced in working with those living with depression, anxiety, persistent pain, and substance use challenges, which are often rooted in trauma. I am most experienced in supporting adults with complex trauma, concurrent disorders, and developmental injuries stemming from adverse childhood experiences. For most of my career, I have had tremendous opportunities and the honour to work with First Nations communities, from Six Nations of the Grand River Territory (Canada’s largest reserve based on population) to Nuxalk Territory. I have worked in publicly funded healthcare roles in community mental health and substance use settings, primacy care, and acute emergency care. I am the former Clinical Team Lead for a private mental health organization that provided both housed treatment and community-based psychotherapy for persons with complex mental health conditions and concurrent disorders. In my ten-plus year’s experience, I have witnessed within everyone I have worked with the innate desire to return to wholeness, connectedness as pack animals and spiritual beings. Traversing between the internal landscape of one’s body-mind-emotions-spirit and the wider external systems that impact an individual, such as culture, community, socioeconomics, family, and beyond are all important touch stones for us to explore. I have completed my Sensorimotor Psychotherapy Level 2 with the Sensorimotor Psychotherapy. Institute, which is somatic (body) based psychotherapy. Sensorimotor Psychotherapy recognizes the body as a wise healer. We work with movement, sensation, and five-sense perception, not just emotions and cognitions. Trauma first and foremost affects the body, and talk therapy alone is rarely enough. Our bodies hold onto our lifelong experiences – the wounding, wondrous, and restorative. In the early phase of treatment, we will develop resources for improved autonomic nervous system modulation and emotional regulation. This paves the way for trauma reprocessing with somatic sequencing and or reinstating defensive responses to bring resolution of incomplete stress cycles held in the body. Progressing to studying, tending, and befriending adaptive strategies (protective survival parts) and child-state parts work integration to care for developmental and relational injuries. I support persons to access the wisdom of their bodies, the parts of the body that know how to heal old and unconscious patterns that are interfering with living a fuller life. Together we can explore what might be holding you back, softening the stuck parts, creating more openness for personal growth, loving connection, and transformation.
